"The individual holds to those constrictions in the belief that such obedience leads to a better society. The individual does reserve the right to quietly disobey those rules so long as the prospect of reward outweigh the possibility or severity of punishment. Consider universally ignored speed limit laws as exhibit A." - E Mutz | #2715 | |

My teenager made these tonight. They are too good to be believed. Seriously. He used the apples off our tree, so I think any apples will do because I have no idea what variety this tree is. It was here when we bought the place.
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2...ple_dumplings/ ETA, I notice she's serving them on Willow Ware. She's not hurting for cash, huh? |

She probably inherited it. My sister did.

Your apples are likely Bramlys or Granny Smiths.

I don't know what Bramlys are, but granny smith's are green. Ours are smallish, red (when ripe) with yellowish streaks in them. They make great pies and aren't too bad right off the tree.
ETA. Here's what they look like; ![]() It's a really old tree. |

Bramly or Bramley, can be spelled either way and be red or green - Not that I'm an expert on fruit, but I think that's what you got there.

We used to have a peach tree but it got struck by lightning and burned. I was happy. I hate peaches. They're slimy and smell...well...like peaches. (ick) |

Hey there, They kinda look like darker Macs (Macintosh). Macs are VERY high in sugar-when you cut into them, they literally ooze a sugary syrup......and oh are they tasty to eat! I would add one note: never cook with Macs unless they are over ripe: Macs are best eaten raw, so that the natural sugar can be enjoyed without the overshadowing of other flavors........I shared many a Mac with my beloved Gramm.....who taught me how to hunt, fish, cook, shoot, and love the Lord Jesus............. They DO look like some macs I've seen in the store, but they're smaller, and not super-sweet. They make great pies and turnovers and such, but I have to add some sugar. There's a bunch on the ground right now, but I'll turn the equines out there. That'll take care of that.
![]() ETA Neanderthal, I don't remember you. I'm a relative newbie though. In any case, welcome back! (MY Gran taught us to hunt, fish, shoot, cook, & sew as well. Not to mention skate and ski.) |

Hey Fly, A Quality Hayburner is a thing of beauty! Hey, if you like Hard Cider, all those on the ground, that aren't starting to rot, would make some AWESOME Dry Hard Cider!!!!! You can get some champagne yeast from a Brewer's Shop or if such is too far from your place, plain jane ole bread yeast will do.....though you'll end up with that 'beady' flavor to the cider. Some like it, some don't, personally, I rather like the bready flavor....though a nice, clear, champagne taste doesn't hurt my feelings any at all!!! Cheers from the Rockies ![]() |
