"Ugh, I dated a guy in HS who would jizz in his pants every time we made out for too long. He wanted to sleep with me and I wouldn't do it. I kept telling him that taking his virginity was just too much responsibility for me. Really I just didn't want to waste that 30 seconds of my life." - mom2my4 | #3982 | |

The Somerville Gates
Christo's "The Gates" Which "artistic expression" do you find more artistic, more uplifting or more entertaining? As should be obvious from my selected smilies after the links, I find the first link I posted much more uplifting, artistic, and entertaining...although without the second link's inspiration the first would OBVIOUSLY not exist! Do you find artistic works such as Christo's "The Gates" (or any of his other "works") to be "true art"? Feel free to divert this "debate" in whatever direction you see fit, within reason. ![]() I'll be nice. I'll be nice. I'll be nice.

I think the first one is artistic, witty and uplifting in its humor, and as a parody. I love parodies.
Do you find artistic works such as Christo's "The Gates" (or any of his other "works") to be "true art"? I do. I like the way the color and light plays through the time of day, the scale, the movement, texture, etc. It kind of reminds me of Ayer's Rock and how the colors change with the time of day. I like the play of man made vs. nature, or the integration/complimentary nature of the two. Art doesn't have to be a decorative piece to hang over your sofa or a stuffy museum piece. I am open to just about any art expression. |

I like the Christos gates...but I'll admit that I think there are waaaay too many of them. Maybe just 1/3 of them would have been fine. At least it seems that way from the pictures. With one right after another like dominos...it's distracting.

Do I ever find this guys work to be "artistic". Umbrella's was a very inspired "piece". I really think that this kind of art is wonderful. I am rarely moved by art that is more modern or performance. Snow Patrol |

Didn't those umbrellas kill someone? When art attacks. Film at 11. |

I didn't know that! Art doesn't just imitate life, it ends it as well!

I saw the yellow umbrellas that Christo did in Northern California in 1992. Seeing it in person really showed the scale of the project. It was breathtaking.

hey,
actually, its quite hard to tell. both works are uplifting, interesting, enlightening and great. i'd say i go for the gates, but you can't really know. i think that in the post-modern world, a lot of things can be observed as art, hence there are a lot of "artists", i recommend everyone to read this book on the subject, as it pours some light on these matters. jason |

Hey all,
Anyone got another public liability insurance link to Christo's "The Gates" as original one posted by Peanut is no longer working? Thanks Ash |
