Shades of Scott Mackenzie's song "San Francisco" haunt my mind when I think about this story...

"If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there..."

SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) -- Nudists, grab your yoga mats and head for San Francisco.

City prosecutors Wednesday said it was not illegal to perform naked yoga in the city -- even at the crowded tourist destination of Fisherman's Wharf.

Prosecutors dropped charges against a limber nudist, known locally as the "Naked Yoga Guy," who made a habit of striking yoga poses in the buff in order to promote a book and his lifestyle.

The Naked Yoga Guy, whose name is George Monty Davis, had stripped to stretch nearby Fisherman's Wharf, prompting a public complaint. But prosecutors decided they had a weak public nuisance case against him because local laws do not bar public nudity.

"Simply being naked on the street is not a crime in San Francisco," said Debbie Mesloh, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

"To bring a case, a person would have to exhibit lewd behavior, block traffic or impede pedestrians on a sidewalk, something along those lines."

In another case involving a Los Angeles teenager who dropped his pants to expose his bottom, or "moon," passing motorists from a nearby sidewalk, a California appellate court ruled nudity itself is not a crime, Mesloh said.

Davis could not immediately be reached for comment.

Do you feel naked yoga in public is indecent? Would this sort of display be acceptable in YOUR town? Debate, please...

*LOL* It probably wouldn't bother me at all, to be honest. I quite feel like I would have fit in great with the hippie movement. Nudity, love, even sex...those don't bother me as much as violence, graphic images, etc. KWIM?

I can see that it might offend other patrons, though...

Ya know, whether he is being lewd or not, personally I don't care to see some guys wingwang hanging out in public while I am out doing shopping or sight seeing or what have you. My DH won't even walk around the house naked in front of our girls, and I would prefer they not get an eyeful of some stranger out for a nudist lark in the park when we're heading to the playground, ya know?

WHat's next? Naked lunches at the open air food market? Nude volleyball at the rec center fields?

Whether it is lewd or not, I ALREADY see too much of some people's skin walking around CLOTHED in summertime, let alone totally naked people.

PS I must admit I would not object to perhaps, Daniel Day Lewis doing naked yoga at Fisherman's Wharf. I might even PAY to see that. But your average Joe or Jane Schmoe, I'd prefer not. ;)

I don't particularly care to see it, but it doesn't bother me all that much either way. We are going to San Fran-cisco (dammit Janet, I have that song stuck in my head now!) at the end of Oct, and if we see him it will be a good opportunity for a conversation opener between my older son and I. Lemme just clarify, I don't intend to seek him out, but if he is there when we visit FW then my son and I will be talking about choices and implications.

No problem to me. The family goes to SF at least 2 times a year. If someone wants to walk around nekkid, it wouldn't bother me any more than any number of irritating fashion statements.

I cant believe no matter what he looks like that he isnt at the very least stopping traffic and causing tieups

SF is pretty much stop and go traffic. Not much to tie up. Also there are many places in the parks that a crowd doesn't impede traffic on the sidewalk.

It wouldn't bother me, I don't think naked it indecent at all, just naked.

But I am willing to stake my life on the observation that it would not in fact be acceptable in Utah. I don't think they allow people to be naked in their homes in Utah for more than 10 minutes after you have left the bath, or shower. It is under amendment four of the state constitution.

(I am joking of course).

Nekkedness is no big deal to me. I think we have too many puritan hangups about the body anyway.

It wouldn't bother me. My boys all have "wingwangs" so that's no big deal and they see me naked on a daily basis so seeing a naked woman wouldn't faze them either.

wouldn't really bohter me. I know I would have some explaining to do with my children, but I don't consider nudity to be a bad thing at all.
