If you really can't stand someone do you follow them around the net obsessivly or do you leave them alone?

If so do you consider it to be an obsession?

I'm just curious.

Stalkers suck! I've dealt with my fair share...had to start posting on locked only forums because of it!

Ugh, if I don't like someone I stay as far away from them as I can, IRL and the internet. I have never dealt with someone like that, but I do think it is a sick sort of obsession

I don't have any obsessions with anyone, but I DO have a couple of people who follow me around the 'net attempting to make my life miserable.

I refuse to allow them to stop me from visiting boards I enjoy.

I only follow people I like. LOL

On one hand (mostly because it's never happened to me) I kind of feel sorry for them. To have a life that sucks so bad, or absolutely no life at all, that you have to stalk someone on the freakin' internet . . . it's really pretty pathetic if you think about it.

And then on another hand, it may be kind of flattering that this person thinks so much of you as to dedicate their life to following you around, at the expense of everything else. (although, perhaps they don't have a life, see above)

I have a mental image in my head of internet stalkers: Some gross, fat, sweaty guy with greasy hair plastered across his balding head posing as different people: men, women, children, drunk with power (cuz really, it's probably the only "power" he's got) of being able to trace people. Of course this person has to keep folders with info for each of his different personas.

All in all, a pretty pathetic act.

I have never experienced an internet stalker. Now if someone just happened upon me on another debate board I wouldn't consider that stalking. I would just consider that bad luck.

This is one of the reasons that I rarely tell any boards about where else I post. That way if someone starts to be abusive and personally attack me. They can't take it to other boards.

I have and it was a nightmare. I had a true "stalker" that was harrassing and threatening me. And after TLOL shut down, I had a stalker that was nothing more than a jealous, conniving little bitch with no life that followed me to other boards and registered under fake identities. We had to switch our board to a "membership by approval" and I'm still not very trusting when it comes to new people.

A real stalker is scary and there is no ignoring them. They follow and persist. My experience with a stalker lead me to contact the board admin and work with them to resolve the problem. It was creepy having someone who hated me with such venom and who said negative things about my children and even my husband. She should have been banned sooner than she was IMO.
If it is the kind of stalker that doesn't really make you feel personally threatened but pops up on every thread you are involved in making up inflammatory things and whatnot, I either ignore them (almost always ends it) , or in the case of one of these people I goaded her until she stepped over the line and was banned from the board. I would never do this kind of think lightly. It was pretty intense and ignoring didn't work. At this point I would likely just leave the board. I am not attached to BBs as I once was

This is why I hate the fact that people can hide behind names, I mean I honestly dont care if people know my name or not, but the fact that we have to change our name to keep away from the crazy people bothers me.

I have only had a problem with one person from a site....she is back posting again and it bothers me, but I try to stay away from her.

I've never followed anyone from site to site just to "stalk" them.

If someone is mearly following me around from board to board it doesn't really bother me. If it spills over into my real life then that's a different story.

If I REALLY can't stand them I follow them everywhere and post a dozzen or more ficticous pictures of them, then, LOL,

Ok, Really I usually tell them off and ignore them forever!!!

I've never stalked anyone (well, maybe Mabel coz she's she's got a purrty mouth) and nor have I been stalked but I did have a chat room freak who didn't understand that NO means NO.

He was from your side of the pond and kept hanging out at an Irish chat room. He claimed he could get my address etc from my IP and that he was planning a trip to Ireland which scared the crap out of me, and he changed his name so often putting him on ignore didn't work. It was sort of scary so I just didn't go back to the chat room. That was the worst bit, I had to give up a chat room I really liked where I had met some really nice people just because this muppet had no life of his own.

OOh, I have been accused of doing things I didn't do at a message board, and the only person who knew I didnt do any of it, was me! That sucked, but it wasn't stalkerish.

Clio, I've asked you repeatedly to stop emailing me, asking for pictures of my mouth. It's just plain odd.
