God helps those who help themselves.

It takes a village to raise a child.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped.

God helps those who help themselves. I believe what this statment implies is if you aren't willing to help yourself in whatever you are doing, then don't expect others to do it for you. YOU have to make the difference. Everything will not be handed to you on a silver platter. At least for us in the real world.

It takes a village to raise a child. I believe what this statment is saying is getting the community involved. We, as a nation have become very anti social when it comes to community cohesiveness. If more people got invovled with thier communities then maybe children wouldn't be off running the streets doing bad things such as drugs and having sex at age 10. JMHO though.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Again if you can't make the effort to help yourself FOR yourself then you don't really want to be helped and anyone trying to help is only enabling that person. Same way with "you have to love yourself first to get love from someone else".

I agree with all the statments.

1. Even though I don't really believe in God, I do agree with that philosophy in that you are responsible for yourself.

2. Is utter bullshit. If the village gets to raise the child, then I should be able to punish them when they are littering in my yard, according to my standard. That statement only seems to be thrown around by lazy parents who think they are entitled to everything the hard working have, but don't want to put in the time and effort to get it. Nothing pisses me off more than this statement. Philosophically, it has it's roots in good intentions, but it has taken a bad turn. It takes two parents (or one strong parent) to raise a child PERIOD. Otherwise don't have em.

3. I totally agree with.

God helps those who help themselves. I think it's basically a statement to say, "get off your ass and at least try."

It takes a village to raise a child. In this uncaring and selfish society I don't believe this term even applies anymore.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. So very true.
