Here's the scenario:

You are in the drive-thru of a fast food establishment. You pull up to the window and give the guy the money. He asks if you need any salt with your food, and you politely decline any. He then asks you if you need a husband, at which you tell him in a serious tone that you already have one of those. He replies "that's too bad, because I'm looking for a hot mommasita."

How would you handle this particular situation?

How do you handle any situation in which you find yourself the recipient of rude customer service? Do you not say anything? Or do you take it up with the manager of the establishment?

The moment you told him you have a husband he should have backed off! His question of "do you need a husband" was totally innaproperate. He is at work and is supposed to be doing his job not hitting on people. Small talk is fine but he not only was rude to you he made a pass at a woman who told him she is married.

Report his ass!

Obviously, this happened to me yesterday when I went through a drive-thru. I forgot to mention the part about when he gave me my change. When I held my hand out for my money, he took his hand, placed it under mine, and was caressing it while using his other hand to place the change in the palm of my hand. He was doing this all while asking me if I needed a husband.

I came home and told DH about it, and he was LIVID. He immediately called that store and told the manager what had happened. He also left a message with the corporate office in Austin letting them know about this incident. If they don't call back in the morning then we'll be calling them.

The guys at this particular place always flirt with me, but never to the extent that this one did yesterday. Needless to say I won't be visiting that restaurant again!!!

The guy is obviously a desperate little man, ignore it.

Worry about the serious stuff. This, in my eyes, is not serious. I don't see anything wrong with reporting to the store manager but I certainly wouldn't be losing any sleep over it.

**edited to add**

I missed that part, I thought it was all in your first post.

Now that hand thing would seriously creep me out. NOW I can see why you're mad. I certainly would be getting the heebie jeebies.

I'm with Clio. In answer to your initial post, it just sounds like some dorky teens or whatever being pushy and annoying. I'd roll my eyes and drive off after paying. But the hand thing?? That's going over a line of personal boundaries. I'd report him.

You can't even get some fries without some freak trying to hit on you... sad. I would have told him "Do you know how unattractive that is?", while looking at him with a stone face. That really isn't cute, at all. Him caressing your hand--that's very creepy and I would have reported him for that. But the dumbass comments, I would have just ignored the creep.

What a loser...

Ummmmmmm hand thing is a tad creepy. You did the right thing. It would freak me out. I wouldnt have been in the right frame of mind to go storming into the store, like you I wouldve went home. And then handled things from there.

I was actually thinking of reporting someone at the local 7-11 today. My son age 7 saved all his change, quarters and dimes, to buy some magic cards today. I took him but didnt go inside (our teenage neighbor went inside with him) and Alex picked out the cards and went up to the counter. He was first in line. The cashier saw his change and made him go to the back of the line (6 people behind him) because she didnt want to count his change and make people wait. If she cant count up $4.00 fast enough thats her problem. I am assuming she only did that because there was no adult present with the boys and felt it was okay to do so.

Or neighbor came back in the car and told me about this. I was really ticked off. However I had no shoes on, and didnt feel like making a scene...but that was uncalled for. IMO.

The fast food guy, that was wrong and way creepy.I would have called the store and the corperate office..

The 7-11 situation thats just BS. You don't make a person stand in the back of the line if they were there first. If I were a customer I would have said "NO, he was there first he should get waited on first." I've done that before when a cashier didnt want to wait on a child before an adult (me). If the kids their first, help them!

Give me the address where that filthy ass pig is located because I am in an ass kicking mood!

Seriously though, although I think it is creepy it doesn't surprise me with the way so many fast food employees do treat customers and each other on a regular basis.

ETA: report it to the home office, Not the store manager because from what I have whitnessed they could be "cool" or "tight" and might let it slide.

Ugh, the hand thing was WAY over the line. He sounds really creepy. You know, sometimes a person can say that in a joking way, as a compliment, and you can laugh it off and move on. It sounds like this guy was serious and he did cross the line. You are right to report him.

On the other hand, just a reminder. When you do get a drive through person who is really good - tell them that. This post made me think of two employees at our local fast food joints who work the window. One is an elderly black lady who is always quick, always courteous and always gets my order right even if I make changes. The other is a very young black teen who is super courteous, always in a happy friendly mood, and who apologizes if the food takes a little longer than usual. You can tell this guy is going to go places, even if at 15 he is pushing fries.

This made me think that I need to give them both a compliment next time I got through, and to say a good word on their behalf to the managers next time I go in the restaurant.

Hear Hear!!! I think that is a great idea and a good way to make a silver lining out of this ugly gray cloud.

SouthernJen,
The guy went WAY over the line just by touching you. You did the right thing by reporting him!

if he hadnt of touched you i would have said to laugh it off
but touching you like that is crossing a major line into the harrassment category in my opinion.
i would have reported it to his direct manager and then also gone home and called his district manager as well.

Just to give an update:

Monday afternoon I called the corporate office in Austin and made a complaint with them. The guy I talked to could not believe that happened and said he would be contacting the owner of that particular store immediately. They are going to investigate this and get back to me so I'll know what the outcome is.

Honestly, the guy is damn lucky I didn't get out of my car, walk into the place, and knock the hell out of him. I guess the employees at this particular restaurant assume that because I'm a blonde-headed female driving a new car then I must be out looking for a husband or a boyfriend. :yeahright
