A video that shows a young American soldier admitting to being a participant in the shooting of two Iraqi prisoners will air on “60 Minutes II.”

Will you watch? Should it be shown, or not?

I'd be interested in seeing the whole tape, and getting the whole story. It sounds like the shootings were justified.

It sounds like the shootings were justified.

The one that swung the pole, yes, maybe that was justified. Things can be violent in prisons, and correction officers (or in this case military) have a right to defend themselves. But correction officers in the States use mace, pepper spray, and other non-lethal methods to control prisoners. They don't shoot them in the chest unless there is no other choice, it is shoot or be killed (and I don't know if they'd shoot in the chest in this scenario either -- I always thought they were trained to aim for legs to incapacitate only). Maybe this was that type of situation where shooting was warranted. I don't know. Like you said, we will have to see the piece and hear the entire story.

But regardless of why or how, the words of this soldier are so cold. “We’ve already had two prisoners die ... but who cares?” the soldier says on the tape. “That’s two less for me to worry about.”

Man. That's an awful thing to say, period. Saying it on tape makes it worse. It alway amazes me what people say when they know it is being recorded and could fall into the hands of anyone. She really needed to be reassigned.
