Man charged with murder in Carlie Brucia killing

A man has been charged in the kidnapping and death of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia, whose body was found this morning, Sarasota County Sheriff Bill Balkwill said today. The suspect, Joseph Smith, already is in jail on unrelated drug and probation violation charges.


I didn't realize they had found her body. I'm outraged! Truly sickened and saddend!

I saw it as soon as I got online this morning. Watched a clip of this morning's 'Today' show.

My heart is breaking for that mother. I 'bout puked when I saw the surveillance video.

They've got a name for people like him in prison......"Bitch".

OK so this is general debates so I'm going to comment on a few things that have really been bothering me since I started watching this unfold.

#1, watching the video tapes. That girl didn't show ANY resistance, its' almost as if she willingly went with him. My mother taught me to fight, scream, bite, kick, especially in the groin area. Why did this girl just go with him?

#2, she looked at least 15, every picture they showed of her she had make up on and very provacative clothing. She did not LOOK like an 11 year old.

Please don't get me wrong. This man's a monster and deserves what he gets 100%. And I'm not saying there SHOULD be any parental accountability...but those 2 things just keep niggling through my mind.

Very sad. I do agree with you, Boo, today's girls dress way, way too old. Young girls should be taught how to defend themselves should situations arise. My heart goes out to her family. I pray justice is done.
