Another AIP Official Says Palin Was at 1994 Convention*
September 02, 2008 12:21 PM
<!-- Natalie Gewargis
--> An intense "she said"/"she said" emerged Tuesday over whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was ever a member of the Alaskan Independence Party (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/members-of-frin.html), the third-largest political party in the 49th state. The AIP wants Alaskans to get an opportunity to vote on whether or not they will remain a state, or become a commonwealth, or split off as an independent nation.
Officials of the AIP said Gov. Palin was once a member, but the McCain campaign -- providing what it says is complete voter registration documentation -- says Palin has been according to official records a lifelong Republican.
A day after making its assertions, on Tuesday evening, AIP chair Lynette Clark acknowledged she was mistaken and that Gov. Palin was never a member.
(Which to be honest seems more in keeping with the ambitious pol. Republicans have a much better track record than the AIP.)
Gail Fenumiai, director of the Alaska Division of Elections, tells ABC News that "Gov. Sarah Palin first registered to vote in the state in May 1982 as a Republican, and she has not changed her party affiliate with the Division of Elections since that time."
But Fenumiai adds that Palin's husband Todd was a member of the AIP from October 1995 through July 2002, except for a few months in 2000. He is currently undeclared.
As part of their pushback against the charges of Lynette and Dexter Clark of the AIP, the McCain campaign says that Palin did not even attend the AIP convention in Wasilla in 1994.
But another former AIP official -- Mark Chryson, chairman of the AIP from 1995 to 2002 -- tells ABC News that "Palin was at the convention in 1994. She was there."
Was she a member?
Chryson can’t say. "She may have been, I do not know," he says. Their records don't go back that far.
"Ask Sarah," he suggests.
I'd love to. But she hasn't exactly been making herself available to the press.

I think panties need to have their wads removed.
Who cares if she was. It is not a bad thing to have a set of beliefs at one stage of your life and then change them as you get older (if that is the case).
And as the governor, I feel it is appropriate for her to send a message to any sort of political conference that is happening in her state.

Does she have more allegiance to Alaska than to the USA, is the baggage here. Not that I give a shit. Just a small part of the baggage she has that can and is used against her.

Todd Palin was a long time member of the AIP and Sarah Palin has attended their conventions with him. She used her position as governor to make that speech. I just wonder if she did the same for the Alaskan Democrats.
It is, of course, only a relatively small thing - and if it were the only one I wouldn't care. But it is one of a long dirty laundry list with Sarah Palin... one heartbeat away.
I think if she were in the executive office, a lot of her abuses in the "Wild West" state of Alaska would be checked. I agree she was a maverick in that state, but have you ever been there?? My understanding is it looks, feels, and operates like Bonanza.

I have been there on vacation. It feels and operates much like many other states. Just not as busy.
I too wonder if she made a similiar speech for other conventions but since they aren't such a big deal, at least in regards to if she did, I doubt there is proof. I still don't belief if is an abuse of power and she did nothing wrong.
Even if her husband was in the AIP and she has attended. I have been to many things that I am not a member of and spoken about them. Nothing wrong with that.

You are making her out to be the second coming. Her commitment to others should have started with not being a royal.

Your right how wrong of me. Saints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_of_Alexandria) only have women (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia_of_Alexandria)dragged from their chariots, stripped, frayed with oystershells and burned alive.
From the calendar of saints. Diana did none of this so can't be a saint.

Does your comment have anything to do with what I said? Because I have no idea what your post is talking about. I don't know saints, I am not religious in any way so whomever you are talking about....don't know them or care.
Either way, Diana was a good person. She cared tremendously about the world she lived in. But she was no saint.

Cyril of Alexandria was the leader of the gang of christians that attacked Hypatia. Hypatia was a scientist. They pulled her from her chariot, stripped her, fayed the skin off her body using oyster shells then burned her alive. Cyril of Alexandria went on to become a saint and he is still celebrated by the Roman catholic church on june 27th.
