I don't think it actually says that exact thing, I think it may stem from 1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it".

If I may ask, Why do people intrepret this verse as to giving than the way it reads as temtations, God will always give us a way out when tempted but many things in life come at us that we have no way out and no control over them. Am I looking at this wrong? or am I reading this right. Thanks

Just from what s/he has said, the Bible is unknown territory...

I was asking as that is usually the best place to start if one has questions about where something is in the Bible.

And, there are lots of searchable bibles online... Do a Google on "Bible Online" (leave out the quotes) and there are pages of sites.

I have read the Bible for years, I have researched this topic and have never been able to find this exact verse. I have tryed to explain this to many people but they seem to get give and tempted confused. I am now in a Bible study and this came up, one more time I find myself trying to explain this again. If any one can help me I would thank you greatly

I suggest you bring it up at Bible study. Studies are to give us a better understanding of the Word. I'm sure the study leader will be more than glad to help you with this.

I agree that the popular expression "God won't give you more that you can handle" is a loose interpretation of 1 Cor. 10:13. People use many expressions that aren't even in the bible. For example....Cleaniness is next to Godliness. It isn't in the bible but God does tell people to be clean, many times and in many various ways.

Good advice and I agree. Wasn't Gandhi the one who said love the sinner, hate the sin though God does tell us to love one another.

Yes it was Gandhi, and Mother Theresa said "I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much"
Here is another interpretation of 1 Corinthians 10:13 with an explanation of were the saying comes from. I found this on the Lutheran web site and it was written by Terry L Bowes
Paul tells us: "God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength but with your testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). Over time that promise has become abbreviated to "God will never give you more than you can handle." Like many others, I've derived comfort from these words, though I know God does not "give" me loss, pain and grief.
Hope that helps some

I am sorry if I sound rude, But if I was a dumb ass I would not be asking this question. I came on this site to find help in solving this question!! I am no scholar or theologian, but I try to practice the principles that I read and understand. I have had many hours spent on many subjects of the words in the Bible, but the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God gave W the Presidency of the USA
*snicker* So, was god testing Shrub or was he testing us? Either way, I'm pretty sure we have failed miserably in 'handling' it and/or finding a way out of the mess we have made.
