SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor shouldhey," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

I don't think that Santa's laugh is going to make a lady think she's being called a ho. I would think that most ladies would understand in that context that they are not being insulted.

Its insulting to women's intelligence.....BUT, on the flip side, no doubt someone would try to profit and sue.

The Santas are more likely to be offensive to those who view Christmas as a purely religious holiday.

I say this is a fake story. Since the source is a Santa who had spoken to an un-named "recruitment firm".

This story is based on the comments of "(o)ne disgruntled Santa".

I believe in Santa Claus but this story is pure bunk. No facts, just some wild accusations to stir up fear that the PC anti-Christmas crowd is out to get us.

Maybe you need to read the article.

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

See how they recruitment firm confirms the story but says it's misleading? So no it's not bunk. It may have been overblown but not pure bunk.

BTW, just because a story has been in the news doesn't mean it is real. I remember a couple of times things had been questionable in the past but I can't recall what exactly. I think one of them might have been something about white people being a minority in about 10 years or something. It was all over the news and then proved incorrect.

That of course doesn't mean that this one isn't real.

And how does that make it fake?

Because when has FOX news ever covered Australian news? Never.
That and because the story contains the word "hullabaloo". No real news story has ever contained the word "hullabaloo".

All FOX did was quote form the The Daily Telegraph, which is like Aussie National Inquirer.
I just took a look at The Daily Telegraph's site and their feature story today is on the "girls" of the American Music Awards. The American Music Awards are not even news here in America.

Seriously reaching on this one..................but that is pretty much normal for you.

Yeah.

chauvinistic patriotism.

You think that all news agencies should be like the ones in the US and not use the word "hullabalo".

Sorry it was over your head. I will try and use smaller words in the future when discussing with you.

"Hullabaloo" was used in the FOX article, not in an of the Aussie stories. I can't see how this makes me jingotastic. I didn't say anything bad about Australia nor anything pro American.

"Hullabaloo" was used in the FOX article, not in an of the Aussie stories. So which one is it? Fox just quoted from the Daily Telegraph OR it was not used in any of the Aussie stories?[/quote]You sure are twisting here.

Oh wait......

http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22759570-5001021,00.html?from=mostpop

No you aren't twisting you are just full of crap.

That link right there is directly to the Daily Telegraph website and their article uses hullabaloo.

I can't see how this makes me jingotastic. I didn't say anything bad about Australia nor anything pro American.Because you are saying that a word used by Aussies is not as good as real news.

Either way you have been proven to be full of crap yourself. Much more so than the article could ever be.

And like I said, sorry for using a word that you don't understand.

The FOX and The Daily Telegraph articles are the same article. Most likely they didn’t mention that because they are both owned by News Corp. They just reprint the same crap in all corners of the world.

News Corp is an American Company not Australian. They are incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in New York City.

Hullabaloo is not an Australian word. Hell, it was even the name of an American TV show.
