Before THANKSGIVING even. That just pisses me off. I mean come on. One station has started playing it in the morning here. A few days before Thanksgiving two radio stations here will play Christmas music 24/7. Its fucking ridiculous.
If your going to cram this over commercialized holiday down my throat at least wait until the month. I mean come on..
Thoughts? LOL

^^^Used to listen to that station when I lived there, I wouldve boycotted it now though
I will listen to Christmas music one week before Christmas. Thats about all I can take. This is a big pet peeve of mine. Can you tell??? LOL
I HATE this holiday. I really really do. By noon on Christmas day everything is taken down and you would have never known Christmas existed except for all the toys of course.

Holiday music should START on Thanksgiving Day. And should run until January 6th!
Starting it too early is just messed up. And then pulling it too early is just as bad!

And for all you Scrooges out there who Bah Humbug. I'm sad that you cannot learn from Christmas Past, Present or Future.
The "Bah Humbugging" Scrooge was a pitiful man with no friends or anyone who loved him.
I agree the Christmas season should run from Thanksgiving to Epiphany, but I just don't get how anyone could hate this holiday. My husband is a bah-humbugger and he says it stems from how as a child his younger (half)brother would get tons of gifts from grandparents and he and his four other siblings would get no gifts at all, from anyone, not even Santa. He says it was a day of drunkenness and abuse and at the very least disappointment....so I guess I can see where he's coming from, but I would think 13 years of my doing Christmas RIGHT would undo that. But maybe some things can't be undone.
Anyway, aside from horrid childhood scarring memories...how in the world can anyone hate Christmas?? I really don't get it. And don't give me that commercialized crap because that's a choice - we've had Christmas with and without money and the withouts have been just as magical, if not more.

We had absolutely wonderful magical Christmases as children. Both parents (together and post-divorce) always tried to make them special. It was ex-husband who destroyed the *Christmas spirit* for me by making every single one a battle. And with DD being an only child who is now a young adult and would rather sleep in AND somehow manages to get all of her gifts before Christmas, there isn't much point - especially for a holiday that we only celebrated the secular side of anyway :P
So, I still enjoy decorating the house and listening to the music (POST-Thanksgiving only!! ) but the day itself  We can't do much this year due to DD's injuries, but next year I think we will start a new tradition of a winter vacation for Christmas.

I had some wonderful Christmas memories from a child. I got my teddy bear who I love and cherish and still have to this day, on a Christmas many moons ago.
I also strongly dislike Christmas. If I could bypass it, I would. Dont get me wrong, I play the part, house is decorated, the tree is up, presents wrapped. But I cant wait for it to be over, which is why by noon on Christmas Day it all goes away. It is very over commercialized, and normally I just dont pay attention to that crap, but with the music, the stores already all decorated and selling Christmas supplies its just all too much.
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, where its about family and food and celebration. Theres no presents (unless my birthday falls on that day LOL) its all about giving thanks for things and people in your life.
If I could make it December 26 and make it all over, I would. I so would!!!

I don't want to knock the religious part of the holiday, but I have a hard time seeing why any American Christian cannot despise this holiday (or at least time of year). Christmas is supposed to be about giving, but not giving expensive gifts and the most current gadget to your closest family. It is not about feeding into consumerism and injecting children with greed and desire. That is not what a Christian Christmas is about and, in America, that is exactly what the Christmas season is about. All this BS about Christmas is JUST too sell you more. It is JUST to get more advertising dollars. It is ALL about greed, nothing about giving.
Thankfully, I have convinced my mother of this over the past few years and she has toned down Christmas. Every year our Christmas gets better and better and my Mom thanks me. She is so much less stressed because she is not worrying about who to get what and she realizes that none of us really care. The family gets together, we might exchange a gift or two to the immediate family if we know they need something or we found something fun to get them. But for the most part, there are very few gifts under the tree.
I am NOT "bah humbug" (well, maybe a little) but the pure hypocrisy of this time of year really turns my stomach and the season starting earlier and earlier each year just drives that point home more and more.

I like Christmas. I HATE Christmas music (exception is "What Child Is This" which really isn't a Christmas sing anyway - the melody was taken from a Medieval love ballad "Greenselaves"). Its all a purely secular holiday for me, by the way.
See, to me it's about light and warmth and relaxation. I adore the lights, the comfort food, the fireplace, the smells, the music, the feeling of being HOME, making things for each other, reading traditional things together, taking walks and rides with hot cocoa and hot cider and chai, decorating the tree with precious memories and beautiful ornaments, being together uninterrupted by work or stress for days, feel-good movies that we can watch over and over...

I guess I'm weird. I actually enjoy the shopping, the Mall Santa's, the food. I love decorating and seeing the kids expressions when we turn on the lights. It can be chaotic at times, but I just love the Christmas season. Even with its commercialism. I try to instill a sense of giving in my kids. We are doing a food drive here at the school for Thanksgiving and a Toy Drive for Christmas. I do the best that I can. They are only little once and it goes away so fast. I just love the season.

Christmas is a great knees-up that should be restricted to a period starting about 20th of December to 2nd of January. Starting bloody jingle bells in November? Bah, humbug!

I'm not Christian, (although I have many relatives of that name, including my youngest), but I espouse all the sentiments of the season, and the messages that Jesus of Nazareth is attributed to in the bible, so I DO celebrate the holiday, sing carols with enthusiasm, play secret santa, decorate the yard to the delight of LES, bake hundreds of cookies....the whole nine yards. We turn on the lights after dinner on thanksgiving, put the tree up on the 20th, and serve the prime on bone china with silver utensils that are in the safe the rest of the year. I LOVE Christmas, BUT...the longer commercialization makes the season, the less special it becomes. Still, more time for me to browse the 'Christmas' shops and buy more crystal angels.....

It makes me sad that so many people have such a negative view of the world. And that they are willing to pass that negative view along to their kids makes me even sadder.
I recall one year my wife took the tree down Christmas day. I was like WHAT IN THE HECK?!?!? Christmas isn't over for another 12 days!
I wonder how many people would rip down the decorations for their kids birthday or someones Anniversary RIGHT as the cake lights are being blown out.
Seems like such a "me" focused reaction.

Seems like such a "me" focused reaction.I tend to do it New Years Day....because, well, I have the day off. It is just sort of a tradition. Of course I start decorating the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Like I said I love Christmas, both the religious and the secular part. It is the only day of the year I go to church (Christmas Eve Candlelight)
I once took down the tree the day after Christmas. The clutter was getting to me and I was lonely for family. Just wanted it to be over. I'm pretty sure I asked the family though.
Oh and we usually put up the week before and take down New Year's day. Real trees get awfully dry when they are inside too long in our dry air here.

You've got to hear John Berry's Christmas CD. He does the best "O Holy Night" I've ever heard. (And I don't even listen to country music). Two Thumbs up.

Nothing negative here in this house. I play the part. The only time they got a glimpse of my hatred for this holiday is when we lived in Michigan, I was severly depressed and the tree looked like shit and kept falling down, so I took it down (yes before Christmas Day) and we had a "Christmas Table". But the kids were young, they loved it. We decorated it all up. The husband was NOT impressed. LOL
If things werent so tight and hard, I may enjoy it more. I WANT to like Christmas, but when its being crammed down my throat November 1st, I have a problem with that.

I have very many good memories as a child. My father, even in the years we were homeless, made the day wonderful for us. The christmas music and in some stores here in west michigan started christmas displays in late september, they were mixing halloween and christmas. JP you might be able to pick up 106.5 out of grand rapids on the weekends they play christams music 24/7. 105.7 out of grand rapids is playing christmas music 24/7 starting nov 1st.
Last year my husband signed us up on a christams home tour, the previous year andthen forgot about it, as a fund raiser for the local high school. They didn't tell him until nov 2 and the tour was on dec 3rd. He got a call that said "by the way you are on the tour" He was a crazy person for the whole month. We spent over 2000$ on decorations. We had over 350 people traipsing through our house. My husband is just like Hyacinth bucket when it comes to the house. I am still hearing about those people touching his walls. If any of you want to see pictures I will email them to you, send me a PM.
This year for christmas we are feeding the community at church, so christmas day I will be serving the hungry clients of the food bank.
BTW here is what chad has to say about christmas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dnxHmvrrW0
