I am really fed up with Idea of helping others. Its like taking unnecessary load on yourself. I had like been a good samaritan and helping out a few people on computers(I am major in programming) when some time later they were like calling me in mid of night and asking about how to check mail and other stuff. It kinda becomes necessary when this things happen to let them know their limits and stop them from invading your life.

It's not kinda necessary to set limits, it is necessary. I bet after you helped the first time and they said "Thanks, man!" you replied something like "No problem! Anytime, man!" and see there actually was a problem. They believed you.

In answer to your question: do you help others? Yes, when I can. My priorities are (in no particular order) my children, my family unit, myself. If time allows, and it does not interfere with my priorities, then I will help others. I will not go beyond my means, or extend myself beyond reason. And like Jokimoto said, setting boundaries IS necessary. Otherwise, people WILL take advantage of your good nature.

No, I like to throw feces at people and kick them when they're down.

I feel it is my duty as a human being and a Christian to help others as best I can. I wish I had endless money, but I don't, so I chose charities with care. I am going to help a friend with his research papers because he has never done one before and is feeling very much lost. I also bake for a group of friends since they don't get treats very often. Little things are often more appreciated than big things.

Besides, if I didn't help people, my darling Daddy would probably start haunting me!

I like to help others when I can but it all depends on what I'm doing at the time. If its something I can drop and go back to later then I'm all for it. My family does come first though. But helping others imo doesn't have anything to do with being Christian, Wiccan, Buddhist or whatever. It depends on the type of person you are. DH is an athiest and he has helped more people out wether it be through charity or just lending a hand. My sister on the otherhand who is a fundamentalist Christian doesnt. It doesnt hurt to help people no matter who or what you are.

Belle, you're now experiencing the reason for the common saying, "no good deed goes unpunished" I was in my 30's before I finally learned to say 'No' to people.

Yes, I help others. I have been kicked in the face by it, but I still do it.

I have parents that give me their sob stories at the daycare. I know times are hard and sometimes I buy into it and let their tuition slip. 90 percent of the time, I get screwed.

Still, it is who I am and I can't change that.

You should let me handle your business affairs. I can help you get "unscrewed" and get you back in the black. If I can tell an 80 year old woman she can't have her hairspray, I'm fairly certain I can tell a deadbeat parent that they either pay their tuition or they'll be served in small claims court.

See, I can help! :D

the problem is not helping others, it's who you help. You can't just haphazardly just help anyone, that's what gets you into trouble. Helping others is worthy, but you also must determine if the people receiving the help are worthy. It is always a good idea to know who you are helping before you jump in with both feet, or you might find that you've landed in a big pile of poo.

Yes. I get great joy out of helping others.

But helping others is purely selfish on my part as I believe that I get way more out of giving than than the receiver gets.

I also believe in karma and that you get back out of life what you put into it.
