Is it acceptable to experiment on non-human animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?

To benefit the health of humans, absolutely. I don't think it's justified for mascara and hair dye, things of that nature however. so, Medicine yes, make-up no.

I thought testing products was what inmates, soldiers, foreigners and the poor were for.

I don't agree. If the product is going to be consumed by the public it needs to be determined that it is safe. No matter what the product is. Granted I think we have anough mascaras out already.

I could not find any documented causes of that outside of Nazi Germany. And I left off blacks also, because that that might not have been such a funny reminder of American product testing history.

What would you do if your teenage daughter's eye make up caused an infection which resulted in blindness? Or that shaving cream caused an infection your DH's blood which went to his heart and was fatal?

Products must be tested for our use. Even products which claim that they have not been tested on animals are really stretching the truth a bit. In 99% of cases, each of the individual ingredients have been tested on animals before the company that makes the end-product buys them. They just don't test the ingredients themselves and they don't test the end-product.

Infections are caused by an organic contamination, either viral or bacterial. Virtually anything can be a medium for the growth of these things. All the testing of ingredients in the world won't prevent that. make-up and the like simply isn't important enough, nor has the danger potential, to make it justification for testing on animals. That's just my opinion.

Your mucous membrance can be irritated by a number of chemicals and cause you to get an infection. Too high of an alkalinity, for example, can cause eye irritation, irritation of the scalp, etc.,
