Nursing Homes

If you had an elderly loved one that could no longer live by him/herself, would you consider putting them in a nursing home? Why or why not?
If yes, what criteria would you consider?

Yes, I would consider a nursing home, or assisted living facility based on their needs.

As for criteria... I'd have to say a good patient/caregiver ratio, good ratings with the agency that licenses such facilities, location (I'd want it near my home or work so I could visit easily), whether the patient is allowed to bring furniture etc. from their home (familiar surroundings are GOOD).

In the case of Alzheimers or any other dementia related issue, I'd also want to know about security - how difficult is it for a patient to get out and wander off?

Honestly, yes, I would consider a nursing home. For many reasons, but I really agree with most of what DayDreamer said.
