The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents. http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060518-114132-2456r.htm
I absolutely cannot believe this...

Agreed, NKH. I don't think that Social Security, or WIC, or any of the other benefits, with the exception of public school should be given to illegal immigrants.

We have quite a high percentage of illegals here in AZ, and it is totally draining on the school system. For example, my DD is in the last quarter of the 8th grade - 3 years of middle school. In that entire 3 years, she has not had a single PE or music class. This is only a sample of the cuts I have seen over the years. In addition to that, her classes are slowed down because many of these kids speak little English. So kids who are intelligent and ready to learn get bored because things have to be repeated and slowed down and explained. That is really what we need - kids who are bored in school. You can't put these kids in separate classes because that would be discriminatory and the school system couldn't afford it anyway. Parents refuse to learn English or speak it at home, so how are the kids supposed to learn it?
So how is that right? Especially for states like AZ which have such a high concentration of illegals, and getting higher every day. I just don't think it is fair...

This is the first you've heard of it?
Check the date on the article, man.

I would rather see the children of illegal immigrants, (and all other children) in school, than not. In addition I don't think that children should be punished for the actions of their parents. They likely didn't have a choice in the matter as to whether or not to come here illegaly. I don't think that they should be left without education because when they grow up their only realistic options are menial labor, or criminal.
I do agree with you on the English thing. I can support the idea of having English as the official language of the United States, and offering NO services, other than classes to learn English in any other language. I do think that if you come here, supposedly to seek a better life, that one of the requirements be that you should make the effort and actually learn to speak, read, and write fluently in English. I don't think that when you call a business to do business over the phone they should say "To speak English press 1" "Para hablar in espanol compra 2" I don't think that the signs that the government put up for highways, roads, etc should be in any language other than English. Driving is a privledge, so I think it's reasonable to offer DL tests ONLY in English. If you cannot communicate with a law enforcement officer in English when you're pulled over, you don't need to be driving, same if you cannot read the road signs.

WERD to that! The kids actually add to the rolls and therefore to your school's funding, though. State and federal funding is given based upon enrollement - and if they are free/reduced lunch kids, you actually get even more funding. But of course, the funding comes from the tax base. It's a catch 22 - if the kids aren't there, the funding doesn't come to the school...but the total base isn't added into if parents aren't paying taxes.
As to the op, I think it's very wrong. If you didn't pay into it, you shouldn't be able to collect it. I can't collect any of the SS that I paid into before I took my pension job (which doesn't pay into SS) because it's illegal to collect a public pension and social security.
