Not be locked for the sake of one person. I believe that this board is for all participants and not just one single person. If other people are participating in a thread then it should not be locked.

It's like walking up to a store and locking the door because some person doesn't want to shop there.

If someone doesn't want to participate in a thread anymore....they have the choice to leave that thread.

There are many threads that I wish I could "lock" be realize that this board is not all about me it is about the community and sometimes that community is not going to do things my way.

This is just my suggestion. And I hope that you see that the thread that "caused" me to post this I was not even involved in.

Now please know that locking threads to keep the peace is not what I am talking about here. If a thread is getting out of hand or WAY off topic or too personal locking it is of course a good idea.

Again this is just a suggestion.

I would agree...WITH the caveat that the original poster could request that the thread be closed.

I would have to disagree. That original poster could just be losing an argument and not want it to go any further. I think they have the same right to stop participating as anyone else.

I however am only talking about debate threads. Other threads sure I don't really care.

See, I was thinking about the dog thread ;). It was a feedback/debateish thread that was based on something that we needed to do in real life. We got the information that we needed, but after a point, it wasn't something that we were willing to let others rail on about how terrible we were without our reply.

I didn't mind disagreement with us, but I wasn't interested in the remainder of the thread.

I honestly don't feel that the dog thread should have been in the debate section anyway. I feel it would have been better somewhere else.

I can understand why you wanted that thread locked. I just think that it really wasn't intended as a debate thread but more of a seeking advice thread. That way when the advice was given it could be closed or even deleted.

Debate threads are more of a public access and ownership thing. The thread originator is no more an "owner" of a thread than any one participant.

This could have (and should have been) handled via PM to admin. Admin will close any thread they see fit for any reason (read the TOS)

This forum is for suggestions right? I'm not saying anyone has done anything wrong. I am just making a suggestion. No different than if I made a suggestion that we bring back the reputation feature.
