This is something I read in a (fiction) book, that I thought might make an interesting debate.
The quote was something along the lines of "If you affiliate with either party, republicans or democrats, you are an elitist because you believe only your party can accomplish anything"
That's not the exact quote, but I let my grandma borrow the book and I don't have it handy.
Anyway, is there any truth to that?

Hi mom, I don't think the statement is true and I'll tell you why. The people like us who are supporters of these political Parties are supporting those who reflect our values and vision for our Country. There's nothing elitest in that in my opinion. But the actual Political Leaders of these Parties that lie to their supporters and think they can just tell them what they want to hear to get their vote but never follow through on their promises, now that is the definition of ELITEST and members of both Parties do that.
But the voting public is victimized by the Elitests, they, or we are in no way elitests for supporting the Political System by which we govern our Nation.

I wouldn't say it is elitist to associate yourself with one of the parties. For the most part people, by nature, like to be part of a group. When there is a group that generally represents your beliefs it is not at all elitist or odd to associate yourself with that group.
What I think the author of the quote was seeing was the stupid blind partisanship that has taken ahold of our nation. Too many people have gotten taken the my-party-is-always-right-your-party-is-always-wrong stance. That is elitism.
