Should pop/soda be banned from schools?
There is talk around here about removing pop from the school lunch menu as well as any pop machines located in the schools. Good idea? Bad idea? Why or why not?

I think it is a good idea. I don't think the school needs to profit off of kids having unhealthy drinks available at school. I think healthy foods should be promoted at school. This is also the philosophy of my school..we only sell milk and orange/apple juice to students. I work in an elementary school though.
I think high school students though are old enough to make decisions for themselves..although I am uncomfortable with the school profiting from the junk.

No, I don't think it should be banned. I think it is all about moderation, and a soda at school isnt' going to kill a kid.

They are talking about doing that here too. The ironic thing is they are putting in juices like snapple and other kinds and there is more sugar in these juices than in the pop. That is what the news program discovered.
Makes no sense to me.

My kids arent allowed to have soda at school. Its been banned at lunch. They never had any soda machines but its not allowed in lunches from home. Which is hard because alot of times the lunchables have soda that come with them.
I cant see that I agree with it. However its not that big of deal to me to make a big fuss about it.

Soda in it's current form should be banned. School districts should make guidelines that Soda companies can work to get within.
10 grams of carbs per 12 oz serving? Instead of 40.

If parents want their kids to have soda at school they can provide it themselves. I think it should not be sold on campus.

In elementary and middle schools, I don't believe soda should be offered at all. I believe that it is VERY important that healthy eating habits should be stressed. In high school, I still don't believe it is a good idea, but it is very easy for a student to get it whether they are supposed to or not, but at that point in time, they are going to start making their own decisions regarding health and eating habits.
And I know that one soda is not going to hurt them, but most people don't drink just one. I know I don't, regardless of how bad I know it is.
