What are you thoughts on free daycare in high schools? Do you think more teens will have babies? Is it a good idea so that the teens that have babies or that are pregnant can stay in school? Would you want them to start one up at your childs school?

I wouldn't have a problem if my daughter's high school had done it.
In my opinion I think it is important that these girls finish their high school education so that they can become self sufficient. Then they are less of a strain on the welfare system. I would rather them get free daycare now rather than paying for years and years of welfare for them. What bugs me is the young girls who have baby after baby so that they can stay on welfare. A whole other thread altogther.
I don't see how offering free daycare would make more young girls have babies. If they want a baby bad enough, they are going to have one. Free daycare isn't going to make much of a difference. I don't think too many teens are thinking clearly anyways when they get themselves pregnant. They don't sit and rationalize it.

In the previous debate on this subject my view came down to the fact that there are already existing programs in place to help these girls and any other kid who can't physically attend class for some reason. One such program is called Independent Study Program (already part of the public school system). The girls could attend this program and still attend school functions and everything. She could graduate and all the while care for her own child. Best of both worlds if you ask me and it is already in place.
I am against spending money to meet this very specialized need when it can already be met nicely.

I personally see the value in it. The costs can be mitigated by teachers and school personell using the service. As well the teen can still have classroom experience, keeping potential high grades and scholarship possibilities viable. The possibilities of teaching potential is there as well. Daycare in high schools would be helping teens at risk in a very difficult situation. Does it HAVE to be totally free for everyone, of course not. But it can be a great idea if applied correctly.

Ah god, I thought this thread had gone night night.
As some of you may remember, I am all for helping these girls (and boys).
But I guess I'm just a Commie. ;)

Day care in schools, no. Why give teenagers the option? Why give them a chance to think ... "it doesn't matter, I can still go to school and just put baby in the day care." I am for the independent study course. My sister was 16 when she got pregnant and she was able to stay home with baby and graduate with her class. While finishing her education she also had to feel the consquences of becoming a mother at a young age.

I still feel that it is a great asset in helping teens finish school and becoming productive members of society.
