Theres a fire in your house, your family members are out of the house and safe, would you risk your life and go back in to save your pet?

Hell yes.

Maybe the dog, depending on how bad the fire was. Don't think I would go get the turtle or fish.

I would if if was somewhat safe.. does that make sense? If I knew exactly where they were and there wasn't beams falling on my head already, then yes I would.

Yup... after making sure the kids were out safely, but IRL should a fire occur, my birds would more than likely perish quickly due to smoke inhalation.

I would make every attempt possible to get Jack out. He's a family member :)

My little dog is always with me inside, so she'd exit with the family.

Snoopy is a member of my family as well but if it came down to it unless i knew exactly where he was and the house was not fully engulfed I would not risk leaving 4 boys motherless to save our dog. I think that would be completely irresponsible of me.

I would close and lock the door behind me to make sure that there is no way my dog could get out alive. In fact, i would risk my life bringing the dog back in.

hehehe. Actually, I would assess the situation. I love my dog, but the fact of the matter is that it is just a dog, a pet. It can be replaced. I know this because I have replaced many-a-family-pet and I haven't been that traumatized. *twitches*

But, if the situation wasn't that bad, I would go back in to get him. However, he probably would have followed me out in the first place.

Yeah, my dog would go out with us. He's attached to my hip... or my ankles, whichever.

I've always told my girls that if there is a fire or a tornado, they can grab the cats (3 of them) if they see them on their way out. No looking for them. I had to stress this, my youngest would look and look until she found them all. I've also told them that if there is a fire to leave a door open, if they can, the cats will find their way out and we will worry about them later.

I ditto your sentiments. My children would not lose a mother just so they could have a dog. I love my Lucy and she probably would be with me, but if she wasnt. I would cry for her death but be thankful my children and family were safe.

Roast Guinea Pig used to be quite the delicacy, or so I have been told.

In other words, HELL NO!

If I could get them out safely, I would definatly go back in for them. The cats, as long as I opened all the doors and windows I could would probably make it out on thier own. the rabbit and rat are caged and wouldn't be able to get out on thier own, so I would definatly try to save them. the fish, sadly, would boil

*nods* yep, this is true in my case too, Sabs is always with me, inside...so he would come out with me....

No. I would do my very best to rescue them as we were leaving, but in the end I wouldn't leave Emily motherless and Eric a windower over the cats or the dog. :( My first obligation is to them.

Edited to add: I know the dog would follow us through hell and back, so I have no doubts he would exit with us. I can't say the same for the cats.

Depends on the pet.

Hell yes.
Couldn't agree more with this statement. My pets are part of my family, you better believe I will do anything to make sure they are safe.

Tashi is a member of the family. He would be with us.

This would be my approach too. I would reasonably take a risk, but I do like my life, and I do have people that depend on me. Though in a true emergency, who knows what my thought process would be?

When I was in 3rd grade my cat and dog both died in our housefire. My mom is a big pet lover...but they were the last thing on her mind when she was running from the flames with her two kids and watching her home burn. It was sad to lose our pets, but IRL you probably wouldn't have time to save them safely. Depends on the situation I guess.

Not a freaking chance. Like Keri said, I will not risk leaving 2 girls motherless (not to mention my DH a widower) for the sake of saving our cats, that would be completely irresponsible of me. Of course, our cats are outside cats, they aren't allowed in the house because one of them will not stop spraying so the question is moot since they wouldn't be in the house in the first place. :)

We have many pets, but only one indoor pet and I would absolutely risk life and limb to save her, or so I like to think. I suppose one would have to be confronted with such a situation before you can truly gauge how you would react.

I would risk my life for my child, but not for my pet. Not to mention, as has been said, that it would also be risking my children's future over a pet. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Without a doubt. I would do my very best to save each and everyone of my "babies." They are part of the family.
