Does he have someone who wipes the drool from his mouth when he's in public? I've seen two close-up shots of him enjoying the breakdancers, and there's drool just dripping off his lip...I would think someone of his stature would have someone to help the old guy out.

This is not meant to offend. I think the Pope is a godly man and I admire the work he has done. I just think it's a little demeaning to see him like that.

You know, I kind of give him credit for being upfront about his illness and still trying to keep up a schedule that would tire out a man many years younger and much healthier. It would be much easier to kind of keep him in isolation like Ronald Reagan and not let anyone see him to "preserve his dignity", but my gut feeling is that this is a guy who does not care so much about appearance as about being commited to carrying on in his job as long as he can.

I too would think there have to be a whole cadre of people there just to help him get around and keep him looking presentable - maybe that photographer just snapped an unfortunate shot or maybe the pope is one of those "don't bother primping me!" kind of guys...?

I haven't seen the pictures you are talking about, and while I understand the illness, I feel like it seems very disrespectful to print those pictures. Maybe I am just oversensitive towards something like that.
