This is kinda directed at Gracie since she has experience here, but what exactly do they believe? I've only known one in my life and all I know is that she wouldn't sign office birthday cards. And I know my grandpa can't stand 'em. But my son asked me the other day what they are and I couldn't give him an answer.

Here is a very accurate link..........http://www.jude3.net/JWFACT.HTM

Jim's daughter Alecia is being raised JW. She does not participate in school sports or most other school activities or fund raisers. They do not salute the flag nor do they enlist in the armed forces.

They do not celebrate birthdays or most holidays. They do celebrate the death of Jesus.

They believe Danny will not be saved as he had a life saving blood transfusion when he was a baby. They do not transfuse blood for any reason. Alecia actually carries a card in her pocket saying she's a Jehova's Witness and can not have blood.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask but the link I gave you is very explanatory and accurate. I think it explaines things better than I can :)

edited to add correct link

Thank you, Gracie!

(And people think Pagans are evil? Sheesh! ;))

I quit my study when I was informed my son would not be saved due to the transfusion.

I do not agree with much of the religion or the way they interperet the Bible. I could not shun my own child for any reason :(

Please keep in mind this is a non debate forum :) If you'd like to *debate* the lifestyles of the JW, start a debate in the religious debate forum!

I may be dead wrong, but, don't they also believe that some finite number of
souls will be allowed entrance into heaven, like, 140,000 or something like that?
And anyone else will pretty much be screwed regardless of the life they've lived?

That's right Lobo. 144,000 to be exact. They will run a government in Heaven. The rest of us will sleep for eternity according to their beliefs.

Edited to add according to their beliefs only the people in the truth (Jehova's wintesses) will be saved and live forever on the earth that will become paradise.

No one else will be saved of any religion reguardless of the lives they've led.

Scarey stuff IMO :(

Eternity? I'd like to just get a full 8 hours!

I moved this to a debate forum as I'm sure it will turn into one :)

I've never known much about the JW religion so thanks Gracie for providing that link. I agree, that's some scary stuff. I can't believe they said taht your son wouldn't be in Heaven because of a transfusion, he was just a child! How can a child be of such sin especially at such a young age to be denied of Heaven?

I refuse to believe it's true Boo Boo. I find many of their beliefs way out there and yes, some what cultish.

Let me say again, most of the people are very kind. I believe they are very misguided and they will not listen to any dispute to their beliefs.

Any organized religion that uses the practice of shunning other members, including family members, for not following their doctrine precisely is a cult.

Jehovah's Witnesses are like wolves in sheep's clothing. Outwardly they appear sweet as can be. But once you're in the clan and start to question where they get their beliefs from, they turn on you in a heartbeat. And then, if for some strange reason you want to return, you have to PROVE yourself worthy before they will allow the rest of the congregation to interact with you.

Cult.

I find the JW's in my area a minor annoyance. They knock at the door while I am in the shower.

Out of curiosity I attend one of their meetings and what I heard reminded me of a cult and I find their close mindedness (at least the members I have dealt with) sickening.

They once propositioned my mother, she told them she was a nurse, pro abortion, pro blood transfusion and they retracted their offer.

To me, religions and cults are synonymous.
