View Full Version : The last natural blondes will die out within 200 years, scientists believe.

A study by experts in Germany suggests people with blonde hair are an endangered species and will become extinct by 2202.

Researchers predict the last truly natural blonde will be born in Finland - the country with the highest proportion of blondes.

But they say too few people now carry the gene for blondes to last beyond the next two centuries.

The problem is that blonde hair is caused by a recessive gene.

In order for a child to have blonde hair, it must have the gene on both sides of the family in the grandparents\' generation.

Dyed rivals

The researchers also believe that so-called bottle blondes may be to blame for the demise of their natural rivals.

They suggest that dyed-blondes are more attractive to men who choose them as partners over true blondes.

But Jonathan Rees, professor of dermatology at the University of Edinburgh said it was unlikely blondes would die out completely.

"Genes don't die out unless there is a disadvantage of having that gene or by chance. They don't disappear," he told BBC News Online.

"The only reason blondes would disappear is if having the gene was a disadvantage and I do not think that is the case.

"The frequency of blondes may drop but they won't disappear."

Interesting, but I find it very unlikely.

I mean, I don't believe that there will be no more blue-eyed people. or people with dimples, or people that can bend their tongues in half, or people with any other recessive gene.

With time (and I mean a lot more time than 200 short years) , man would surely see a decline in those recessive traits, but not an end.

And as far-out and freakish as it sounds, by the time blondes of the world are truly endangered, the act of man scientifically manipulating genetic traits will be mainstream anyway.

I don't buy it either, but mainly because of Genetic Engineering.

I think it's full of crap, Torlain and I are both blonde and both of our kids are blonde, so say they marry someone with blonde hair their kids will be blonde. I'll make sure this happens to make sure blondes live on forever! LOL

I completely agree with the above post.

Both my son and I are blonde hair blue eyed people as well. Hmmm maybe we can apply for scholorships when we become a minority? :D

Me and three of my kids are blonde hair, blue eyed people, so there's 3 more for the count.

First poster....

I think that research is nonsense from my own personal experience. I have children from two different mothers, the first family had black hair, as black as you can get it and as far back as anyone in the family can remember. My boy came out with the whitest hair you could find.

Second mother was brunette as with all her family, her mothers side having very dark hair, again all of my children with her have blonde hair.

Working it out, being just one blonde person fathering 5 blonde cheeky children i wold say that our genes are probably enough to keep the whole "blonde" jokes running for centuries to come :-)

I guess I better make sure all of my kids (all blonde haired and blue eyed) procreated with people who also have those genes somewhere in their ancestry. I'd like to do my part to keep us blondies around.

Better watch out, maybe it's contagious. LOL

I've read that Redheads will be extinct in some odd number of years. I've told my red-headed daughter that it's her duty to marry and have many children with a redhead. :D

I'm a natural blonde, or rather used to be before children faded my color. My husband is a brunette, as is my ex-h. Both of my boys look like they just stepped off of a poster for the Aryan Nation.
