"Some people believe that God created all things, and is someone who watches over themand they pray to him. If you want to learn more we can go to a Church or read the Bible"

my response is:
"uhhh. . . errr. . . well you see. . .sometimes I mommy and a daddy who love each other very much get naked in the bed and . . . oh wait! Wrong speech. . . gotta go!"
*runs out of room*
hehehe
Actually, I don't think I could say everything here that I would say then, but the jist of it would be "God is someone or something or somenothing you have to find on your own. . .I can help, but it really comes down to you because I really don't know."

God is our loving Father in Heaven who created us, loves us, and can guide our lives if we let Him.

explain the concept of religion and give examples of Gods. I also tell them what Christians believe briefly and explain this is the predominate religion in our country. I explain their father and I are atheists and when they are older they will decide what they believe.
Lastly, I explain that religion and God are topics best discussed in the privacy of our home. That people are either offended by our discussion or may choose to attempt to indoctrinate them if they bring it up:)

You are your own God.
I've had this conversation.
"God means different things to different people, depending on their culture, religion, and feelings. But they all believe that God is a loving presence."
To which my then 4 year old responded, after some thought...."So God is different depending on who you talk to?"
"Yes"
(Loooong silence)
"Then, Mom?.....The earth always revolves around the sun right?.....And the earth is always gravity for the moon, right?......And water always shows up in three forms, right?........
Then, Mom? Science must be more real than God -- because God changes, but science stays the same."
I kid you not -- word for word conversation with a four year old. I'll never forget it -- I got shivers. I wanted to argue with him, but he was so sure of his conclusion.

I've had this conversation with a four year old. I said: "You know Aubrey, a god is like Zeuss in the Hercules movie."

I would say that God is the creator of all things. God is all and all are God. Then I (depending on their age) I would explain how people see God in all sorts of different ways.
