View Full Version : Doggin previous members?
Do you see a point in this? I go to a couple other boards. It seems that most boards dog previous members. Why is that?
At one board I frequent, there are out and out rude comments, heavily covered in sugar and honey from one poster to another and visa versa.
I stay out of it, but I truly don't understand. Why dog people when they are not there to defend themselves OR why dog people to get hackles up?
WTH is the point?

All of the above and too much free time on their hands. They obviously lack excitement IRL so they go online to create "excitement", I guess.

What's "doggin'"?
I keep hitting that damn edit button! Doggin is flaiming or name calling.
I used to love a good flaimfest but I'm past that now. I try not to dog anyone even when I have a reason :)

I agree with Gracie, I still admit rather immaturely to 'looking' when an old poster is getting flamed but I don't join in anymore. Just not worth the time...and I'm glad we have a bit more class here to do that~! :D

I still think all women are capable of it... some may be mature enough to curb the instinct but I still think its there. Women do things to each other that you would never see men doing.
I guess. I just see people, and I'm talking intelligent people (men and women actually) with PHD's, doctorates, etc that dog each other, etc.. because so and so is "expert" in this field or that.
Or in other cases, they just don't agree, so it turns personal. Whats the point? I'm not saying I'm above it. I have done it (at least I think I have, but I cannot remember any particulars right now). But it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me any more.

I actually don't believe it is "human nature." That sounds like an excuse to me. There is no excuse.
Yes, some humans are disrespectful, rude, spiteful, inconsiderate, hateful morons. But I don't think the behavior Beck is referring to is endemic to all humans. That would be like saying the only reason I don't sit on this board and dredge up board wars and make nasty comments about banned members is b/c I a suppressing some natural instinct to do so. Uh. no. I don't do it b/c it is stupid, immature, and hateful. It is a choice, not an instinct.
Why do they do it at some boards?
1) Boredom (somebody already said this). These women spends hours and hours at these boards looking for things to talk about. They pick fights and push buttons to entertain themselves.
2) Gang mentality. Some really nice people get caught up into this catty behavior. They have "friends" that do it, and they play along, all in good fun, forgetting or not realizing that they are probably hurting actual human beings, flesh and blood people. (I am guilty of this. I have done it a few times. And I am NOT proud. It was awful)

I think the gang mentality combined with the faceless communication a message board provides make people more daring in their bashing. Since they aren't actually face to face with the other person, a lot of people feel comfortable in letting loose. They get even more daring when talking about former members because those people aren't around to defend themselves.
I've been guilty of this too, and I'm not proud.
I guess I have seen individuals dog people on the same board but I have yet to see anyone dog anyone that has left the forum
sounds mean to me
Maybe they dog me when i turn my back (quickly turns around!!!!)
nope, not hearing any whispers
yet

I see no point in doing it. Its different if someone pissed you off and you vent but If I do that I dont use names I just vent but even with that I usually just vent to a friend then to post it on a board.
Some people just need to grow up.
