Your parents are happily married and your father passes away unexpectedly. Several months later while cleaning out his tool shed you find a box of opened condoms three are missing . You throw them away and say nothing . Three years later a woman calls you and insists on meeting you . You meet her in a safe public place and she tells you that she was your father's mistress and that you have a five year old half sister. She shows you pictures and the child looks like you and your siblings at the age of five. She tells you that she no longer want the girl and is going to put her into foster care . She says that she came to you first just in case you might want to adopt the child .

Do you tell your mom ?
Do you consider adopting the child with dna tests to prove she is your half sister ?
Do you consider adopting the child without thinking of dna tests ?
Do you not adopt the child , but stay in contact with the woman ?
Do you eventually adopt ?
Do you leave and never look back ?

I adopt, and tell my mother. I could NEVER keep something like that from my mother, and I would adopt the child with dna tests, because the dna match would further my chances of being chosen to adopt.

Assuming the DNA tests show she's my half-sister, that's family right there. I couldn't abandon family, regardless of how they came to be. Knowing the kind of person my mother is, she would adopt the child herself.

Well this is a hell of a debate. It isn't fun when we all agree.

SOOOO.

No, I wouldn't tell my mom and I wouldn't adobt the bastard child. Not my responsiblity and dad is dead.

That lady shouldn't have been screwing around with my dad!!

Actually I don't think I would adopt the child or disturb my mom's memories ( no matter how false they might be ). I'm not sure I could add a child to my family ( that was not my child or a child that I had decided to adopt ..wanted to adopt) and not later resent the child . If I was already thinking of adopting an older child I probably would adopt the half sister. But I would not adopt her just because of a biological father we shared.

I'd DEFINITELY adopt. If she's my sister, she's staying with the family. No doubt about it. And she's 5 so the chances of her getting used to our family and becoming comfortable with everyone is great. And you bet I'd tell my mother. I'd tell her everything. There would have to be dna tests done. Without a doubt.

It would bother me that my father had a mistress, but it would have nothing to do with that sweet baby. I'd have to find out if she was my sister first, and then if she is the adoption process would begin. If she wasn't... Hmmm, I'd still feel something for her. I don't know what I'd do then... something to think about. :)

Oh, I also wanted to add that I really, really want a little girl and I don't want to be pregnant again, so um... teeheehee *blushing*, I'm kinda biased there.

I would NOT consider adopting unless I spent some time with the child.

Do you tell your mom ? I'm not sure, I wouldn't want to hurt her; but at the same time she has a right to know especially if i am considering adoption.
Do you consider adopting the child with dna tests to prove she is your half sister ? I would definitely consider it.
Do you consider adopting the child without thinking of dna tests ? No
Do you not adopt the child , but stay in contact with the woman ? No way!
Do you eventually adopt ? I'm not sure, I would hate to see a relative in Foster Care, but do I put my mother through the heart break?
Do you leave and never look back ? No, I couldn't do this, I wasn't brought up that way.

Who's to say Mom doesn't already know? What generation are we talking about? Maybe mom knew and just "overlooked" it

Of course I would take the child. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Do you tell your mom ? Yes

Do you consider adopting the child with dna tests to prove she is your half sister ? Yes

Do you consider adopting the child without thinking of dna tests ? Not sure.

Do you not adopt the child , but stay in contact with the woman ? No

Do you eventually adopt ? Yes

Do you leave and never look back ? How could you?

I would also make sure lots of papers are signed by the bio mother to make sure she could never reclaim her parental rights to the girl. She would had gone through enough trama already.
