I hate the security devices that they enclose in so many products today . I bought some dvds yesterday and ofcourse the cashier did not rub them over the deactivator correctly or it did not work right. I go out the exit doors and the alarm goes off so I have to go over to the greeter and let her check my reciept and scan all my dvds. I understand it might stop some shoplifters , but its a pain for paying customers . With the money they spend on electronics for this to work , wouldn't it be cheaper and more pleasant just to hire a few more floor walkers ? I always feel like a freak when the alarm on the doors goes off , even though I'm not a shoplifter. Am I the only one that hates this system ?

Its annoying for sure... but I think they don't use floor walkers because of the laws in regards to shoplifting. Its very hard to stop someone shoplifting. You have to see what they took, where they put it and not let them out of your sight until they leave the building. Its risky to accuse someone, especially if you are wrong. The tags are meant to be a deterrent.

but aren't the alarms an accusal in thierselves ? What I'm curious about is if you do just keep going (to your car ) with the alarm going off what will happen ? The ones at our wal-mart are just sound , no lights I'm also wondering about deaf or hearing impaired shoppers.

Oh I know what you mean. WalMart.........they do it all the time. I swear the get off on it!
A few years ago SO and I were buying condoms there and the cashier didn't scan it right, and what do you know? We walked out and the alarms went off and shit. Of course I just ran out the door lol, since SO had the bag.......and they searched through the bag and found this economy size box of condoms and lube lol....and then had to take it out in front of everyone and scan it. I watched from outside. I never carry the bags now.....no matter what's in them!
I find it so pointless, those security devices.

Honestly, it does not bother me. I use to work at Home Depot and you would not believe the amount of shoplifters we caught with a well placed tag ;). If an alarm goes off on me, I stop and let them search and find what they need. When they are done, I go about my business. Doesn't affect me in the least one way or another.

Wages are the biggest overhead of most companies. I suspect it is not cheaper to hire extra people for every day the store is open than to have one set of electronics on the door which will last years.

If nothing else seeing the security measures is a deterrant - though for all I know there is an easy way around them.

Personally I don't mind them and they're there for a good reason. If stores lose too much produce to theft they have to put their prices up to cover it.

I have had the alarms go off on me...so now if I know there is a tag I make sure they deactivate them.

I've had it happen to me many times, alarm goes off, escorted back to desk and asked to empty bag. Last time it happened I made sure there was a reason for it; So I stole something.

hahah! I just run my cart through the buzzer thing if I have stuff (CD's/DVD/medicines (yes, OTC meds like nose spray have them too), etc) and wait for the buzzer to go off. If it doesn't go off, I go on. If it goes off, I get the bags, that have possible devises in them and swing them through the buzzer detector. Most store associates just chuckle and wait for me to find the buzzer or they tell me to just go on!

walmart gives out special stickers that say you walked in with the item, if they stop you at the door just tell them they would not let you return it without a reciept, at least go for the 47 inch big screen tv! fuck, just bring in a candy bar or something with the barcode slightly scratched off, and tell them you want to return it, and it won't scan so they will give you a sticker that says, "general merchandise: $0.00" well take that sticker back to electronics and put it on a tv or computer, then when going out the door, let them stop you, act like you own the mother fucker, and tell them they would not let you return it without a reciept, they then reply ok have a nice day! Make conversation, tell them your wife has the reciept, and she don't wanna give it to you, make them laugh, then take your new tv to the car, take it out of box, bring that box back in through the other door, then get the real sticker, and go switch it out for another one, then another one, till you run out of trunk space duh

wal mart if you haven't noticed, has come up with a new system instead of a pink sticker, they now scan the item and give you a sticker, well what if your item doesn't scan, just bring in a candy bar or somthing that you want to return, slightly scratch the barcode so that it can't read it, they will give you a sticker that says "general merchandise:$0.00" go back to electronics and put it on a damn computer! if they ask for a reciept at the door, fuckin talk to them like you own the mother fucker, they would not return it without a reciept cuz it was too expensive, make conversation, but always have a look out, that's it, then take the empty box back in the store, then they will give you a real sticker for that item so go get another one, then another one, then another one ! fuck that running shit play it smart

and if you wanna get shit, get like 5 pair of the 20 dollar glasses then go return them for a 100 dollar walmart gift card... but you can only do 3 returns within 6 months without a reciept, the largest return ive ever seen was 587 dollars, without reciept

but I do need help, my friend wants to know how to take off those damn retractable security devices that wrap around the tvs, they tighten , it's like a 4 way cable, how does that work, you cut it, alarm goes off, I know it's just a magnet to take it off right, I tried to tell him but he says it don't work,
